Simple-C keeps the controls you use everywhere in two places: the sidebar on the left and the header across the top. Learning these two areas first prevents the most common mistake in the application—working in the wrong business.
The sidebar
Use the sidebar to move between the main areas of Simple-C. The options you see depend on your role, so your menu may be shorter than a manager’s or administrator’s menu.
- Dashboard — an overview of active work, selected business details, and pending tasks.
- Tax Files — clients, tax files, invoices, and related administrative reports when your role includes them.
- Expenses — the Entries hub and the Reports catalog.
- Config — providers and banks. Company administration is restricted to authorized users.
- Account — billing, users, profile, and password settings.
Select the menu icon in the header to collapse or reopen the sidebar. On a small screen, the same control opens the sidebar as a drawer.
If a page described in this Knowledge Base does not appear in your sidebar, your role or company may not have access to it. Ask your Simple-C administrator before assuming the page is missing.
Select the business before you work
Most bookkeeping screens use the business selector in the header. The selected business becomes the working context for pages such as Banks, Manual Entry, Summary, Assets, and Classification Rules.
- Open the business selector in the header.
- Search by business name.
- Choose the business you intend to work on.
- Confirm the name shown in the header before entering or changing data.
Simple-C carries this business selection between compatible pages. Some pages add their own Bank and Year selectors because those choices are specific to the task.
When the selector is replaced by a summary
Inside the Entry Workflow, the header shows a snapshot of the workflow’s business, bank, and year instead of the normal business selector. This keeps every step tied to the same imported statement. To work on a different statement context, return to the Upload step and choose or upload the correct file.
The header controls
The right side of the header contains shortcuts that remain available while you work:
- Submit Ticket — opens the in-app support form on larger screens.
- Notifications — opens the Notification Center. A badge shows the number of unread notifications.
- Help — opens this Knowledge Base in a new tab.
- Your name — opens the account menu with Profile, Password, theme, and Log out actions.
If your account is in a trial or close to renewal, the header may also show the number of days remaining and a link to Billing.
Light and dark mode
Open your name menu and choose Dark Mode or Light Mode. Simple-C saves the selection to your profile so the theme follows your account. You can also change it from Account → Profile → Settings.
Use the guided tours
Some screens include a small help control near the page tools. Select it to replay that screen’s guided tour. Tours explain controls in place and do not change your data.
The business selector may introduce itself automatically the first time you use it. You can replay that tour from the nearby help button.
A safe routine for every session
Before entering or editing records:
- Check the business in the header.
- Check the bank and year on the page, when shown.
- Confirm the page title and active sidebar item.
- Make the change.
- Wait for the success message before navigating away.
This short check is especially important when you manage several businesses with similar bank names.
If the page looks empty
- Confirm that a business is selected in the header.
- Check the page’s Bank, Year, Status, or Date filters.
- Clear a search term that may be hiding the record.
- Make sure the selected business actually has a bank account and data for the chosen year.
- If a menu item is missing, ask an administrator to confirm your role and office assignments.
